UK and Ukraine to Sign Defence Pact Against Drone Threats

The United Kingdom and Ukraine are preparing to sign a defence partnership agreement focused on countering threats posed by low-cost drones. This announcement comes ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski's visit to London on Tuesday.

The pact aims to leverage Ukraine's expertise in drone technology to bolster its defence capabilities amid ongoing conflict with Russia. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office stated that the agreement would enhance global defence capabilities against the proliferation of low-cost, high-tech military hardware, including drones.

The deal includes a funding provision of £500,000 (approximately $670,000) for AI integration within the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. Starmer emphasized the importance of deepening defence partnerships to strengthen Ukraine's ability to defend itself against Russia's ongoing brutal attacks.

The agreement also reflects concerns that the global focus on the Middle East conflict could overshadow support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
