Family Seeks Autopsy After Medical Staff Member's Death

Habila, a staff member at a Federal Medical University, died after informing her boyfriend about a nosebleed shortly before her death. She had been receiving medical treatment at a Turkish hospital, with costs amounting to N2.2 million, covered by her family.

On the day of her death, Habila had communicated with her boyfriend, expressing concern about her condition. After a brief phone call, where she pleaded not to end the conversation, she became unresponsive.

The family initially objected to an autopsy on cultural grounds but later agreed, citing the need to establish the facts surrounding her death. The Minister of Health disclosed that the Inspector General of Police has been requested to transfer the investigation to Abuja for transparency.

The family is also seeking to verify the final conversation through call logs. The Minister condemned any political motivations surrounding Habila's death and warned against misinformation.
