Uniabuja Denies Minister's Influence in Appointments

The University of Abuja issued a statement on July 28, 2026, responding to allegations that the Honourable Minister was attempting to influence its senior management appointment process. The statement, released by Habib Yakoob, the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, described the allegations as “false, misleading, erroneous and entirely without factual basis.” The university emphasized its status as an autonomous institution governed by its enabling laws and internal regulations, asserting that staff recruitment and management appointments are conducted strictly according to approved guidelines and due process.

The university urged the public to disregard the allegations, which it characterized as unfounded attempts to tarnish the minister's reputation. Additionally, the institution expressed appreciation for the minister’s contributions to Nigeria’s higher education sector and rejected any suggestion of improper interference in its operations, reaffirming its commitment to its responsibilities.
