UNIMAID Alumni Launch Global Executive Council for Change

The University of Maiduguri Alumni Association inaugurated its first national global executive council on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in its 50-year history. The council aims to restructure the association to meet global standards, with Maimuna Abdullahi Wakawa serving as Vice President, Dr.

Jamilu Ja'afar as Secretary, and Dr. Usman Usman as Financial Secretary.

Other key members include Salamatu Oniyangi (Treasurer), Ibrahim Musa (Public Secretary), Abubakar Ahm (Auditor), Aminu Shata (Director of Social), and Muazu Dikwa (Legal Advisor). Shettima Kukawa, the global president, described this as a turning point to unify and connect alumni globally.

The new leadership prioritizes unity and structural impact to address long-standing challenges such as disengagement and weak participation among members. The association plans reforms, including harmonizing alumni databases and enhancing digital engagement.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Moham Mele, represented the institution, emphasizing the importance of alumni contributions, especially from younger graduates.
