University of Ibadan to Destroy Uncollected Certificates

The University of Ibadan (UI) has issued a warning that certificates left uncollected for over 10 years will be destroyed. This announcement was made in a special bulletin signed by UI Registrar Mr Ganiyu Saliu, dated September 15, 2026.

Graduates are required to collect their Statements of Result within six months of being notified that the documents are ready. A penalty of N2,500 will be imposed on anyone who misses this window.

The Statement of Result is a temporary record valid for two years from issuance, while the official certificate is the permanent proof of qualification. Certificates can be collected for up to one year post-convocation at a cost of N7,500.

After this period, additional penalties apply: N25,000 for collection between one and five years, and N50,000 for collection between five and ten years. Any certificate uncollected beyond ten years will be subject to shredding.

The university urges compliance with these new guidelines.
