US Approves Sale of N532 Billion Munitions, Bombs, Rockets to Nigeria

The US State Department has approved the potential sale of munitions, precision bombs, and rockets to Nigeria, estimated to cost $346 million (N532 billion). The Pentagon's Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated that Nigeria remains a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism.

The Nigerian government faces challenges from armed banditry, Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and other security threats. Despite military operations and investments in new hardware, insecurity persists, requiring sustained and coordinated action.

The proposed sale includes general-purpose bombs, Paveway II bombs, computer control groups, and rocket systems. The deal aims to improve Nigeria's capabilities to combat terrorist organizations and counter illicit trafficking.

The US government highlighted the importance of enhancing Nigeria's security and strengthening its partnership in Africa. The implementation of the sale will involve US government contractors and technical support.
