JAMB Confirms Hijab Not Required for Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) issued a clarification stating that candidates are not required to remove their hijab during the registration process. This clarification came after a video surfaced on social media, showing a candidate at Babcock University being instructed to remove her hijab for a photograph, raising concerns about potential discrimination against Muslim candidates.

JAMB explained that while candidates must have their ears visible for biometric photo capture, this does not necessitate the removal of hijab. The board emphasized that this requirement is a standard global practice for capturing images for international passports and visas.

JAMB urged the public to avoid spreading misleading information and confirmed their commitment to respecting the religious beliefs of all candidates, regardless of their background.
