Urgent Call for Abattoir Emergency in Nasarawa State

The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, represented by Dr. Mose Arokoyo, has urged the Nasarawa State government to declare a state of emergency concerning the Lafia abattoir due to its poor sanitary conditions.

During a visit to the abattoir, Arokoyo highlighted the facility's unhygienic state, which endangers public health and could lead to outbreaks of diseases such as anthrax. He emphasized the need for the government to monitor abattoir operations strictly and ensure compliance with sanitation laws.

The abattoir, built 14 years ago, lacks proper drainage and water supply, posing health risks to workers and consumers. Dr.

Mukhtar Sabuwa and Moham Gambela also stressed the urgent need for renovations and adequate water supply to improve the facility's conditions. The call for action coincides with the observance of World Veterinary Day, highlighting the importance of veterinary contributions to public health.
