Lagos Police Officer Detained for ₦10,000 Extortion

The Lagos State Police Force confirmed the detention of an officer accused of extorting ₦10,000 from a motorist in the Idimu area of Lagos State. This incident followed the circulation of a viral video showing the officer stopping a driver who had complete vehicle documentation.

The officer allegedly pressured the driver for money, disputing the car's color as registered and threatening arrest if the driver did not comply. Initially demanding ₦30,000, the officer later negotiated the amount down to ₦10,000.

Following the video's release, the police identified the officer involved and initiated a disciplinary inquiry. The Lagos State Police Force stated that they would provide updates on the investigation's outcome once the internal review process is concluded.
