Lagos Police Officer Detained for Alleged N10,000 Extortion

The Lagos Police Force confirmed the detention of an officer named Samson M over allegations of extorting N10,000 from a motorist in the Idimu area of Lagos State. This incident gained attention after a video circulated online, where the driver recounted being stopped by the officer despite having all necessary vehicle documents.

The motorist was held for 30 minutes while the officer raised issues regarding the color of the vehicle. The situation escalated when the officer allegedly threatened to arrest the driver and initially demanded N30,000, which was later reduced to N10,000.

The driver pleaded with the officer, stating he could not pay the full amount, leading to negotiations that resulted in the demand for N10,000. The Lagos Police Force stated that the officer has been taken into custody and that an investigation is ongoing, with the outcome of the disciplinary process to be made public following an internal review.
