VP Shettima Mourns Alhaji Bamanga Tukur's Passing

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima expressed profound sadness over the death of Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, who passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 90. Tukur, a former Governor of old Gongola State and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was described by Shettima as a true patriot and a global citizen.

In his condolence message, Shettima emphasized Tukur's significant contributions to Nigeria, particularly in maritime infrastructure as the General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from 1975 to 1982, where he modernized several ports and expanded cargo-handling capacity. Tukur's political career included serving as Minister for Industries and as PDP National Chairman during a turbulent period.

Shettima noted Tukur's vision for rural development and education and his consensus-building approach, which was evident when he resigned voluntarily in January 2014 to maintain party stability.
