IGP Egbetokun Promises Proactive Policing in Nigeria

On Tuesday, during a visit to the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun pledged a transition to proactive, intelligence-led policing nationwide. He highlighted the necessity for stronger coordination and crime prevention strategies, stating that mere arrests are insufficient for successful prosecutions.

Egbetokun emphasized the importance of improving case file integrity and forensic support to bolster investigations. He outlined plans for structural reforms, including upgrading intelligence units and enhancing legal oversight to support rule of law compliance.

The IGP also mentioned the establishment of additional police squadrons, increasing their number from 74 to 80, and creating new area commands to improve police presence and response capabilities. He reassured the public of the police's commitment to professionalism and accountability, addressing concerns over misinformation and promoting a merit-based promotion system within the force.
