Wike Reveals Cardinal Onaiyekan's 2027 Election Support

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, commented on Cardinal John Onaiyekan's political preferences during a media chat on TVC News. He asserted that it is widely recognized who Cardinal Onaiyekan supports ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike noted that while religious leaders have the right to express their views, their comments can lose their neutral appeal if they are perceived as politically aligned. He recalled that during the 2023 general election, many religious leaders openly took sides, which affected the perception of their statements.

Cardinal Onaiyekan, the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, has been vocal about governance and national issues, previously urging President Bola Tinubu to govern inclusively, serving all Nigerians regardless of their political affiliations. Onaiyekan emphasized the need for the President to transition from campaign mode to governance mode, highlighting that leadership should not be limited to supporters of the ruling party.
