U.S. Senator Cruz Names Nigerian Officials in Christian Killings

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz revealed that American authorities have identified Nigerian officials who enable attacks on Christians, specifically in response to recent violence in Plateau State that resulted in at least 12 deaths, including 10 men and two women.

This incident occurred in the Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area on Palm Sunday, a significant date in the Christian calendar. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang visited the affected community, assuring residents that those responsible for the killings would be held accountable.

The state government announced immediate relief measures for the injured and promised dignified burials for the deceased. A 48-hour curfew was imposed in Jos North starting midnight on March 29, 2026, with additional security personnel deployed to stabilize the situation.

Cruz's remarks highlight ongoing tensions regarding religious persecution in Nigeria, a concern previously raised by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Nigerian government, however, has rejected claims of religious persecution, asserting that such allegations do not reflect the reality on the ground.
