YPP's Anita Chukwu Withdraws from 2027 Presidential Race

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) announced that its former presidential candidate, Anita Chukwu, voluntarily withdrew from the 2027 presidential race due to security concerns raised by her family. Chukwu communicated her decision in a letter dated August 12, 2026, following her nomination as the YPP presidential candidate at the party’s 3rd Elective National Convention on May 30, 2026.

The party emphasized that her withdrawal was not due to pressure from the party or individuals, stating that it was a free decision made after consulting her family about the risks associated with a nationwide campaign. Following her withdrawal, the YPP attempted to replace her with another qualified female aspirant but was unsuccessful, leading to a fresh presidential substitution primary on August 21, 2026, where Peter Agada was affirmed as the new presidential candidate.

The YPP maintained that Chukwu remains an important member of the party despite the change in candidacy.
