Tinubu's Lawyer Explains Absence of US Drug Charges

Wole Afolabi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's legal team in the United States, asserted that if US authorities had evidence connecting Tinubu to drug trafficking, he would have been indicted, arrested, and prosecuted. Afolabi made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, discussing ongoing legal disputes regarding records held by the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Drug Enforcement Administration related to Tinubu.

He pointed out the lack of indictment against Tinubu, contrasting it with actions taken against other individuals involved in drug offenses, such as Manuel Noriega and Andrew Fahie. Afolabi maintained that the presumption of innocence applies to Tinubu and that the evidence does not support the allegations against him.

He also addressed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Aaron Greenspan, which seeks access to documents concerning Tinubu, noting that some records have been released while others remain redacted to protect law enforcement methods.
