Tinubu's Lawyer Explains Why No US Arrest Made

Wole Afolabi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and member of President Bola Tinubu’s legal team in the United States, asserted that if there were evidence linking Tinubu to drug trafficking, he would have been indicted, arrested, and prosecuted. Afolabi made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, addressing the ongoing legal battle over records held by the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Drug Enforcement Administration.

The records are part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Aaron Greenspan, who seeks access to documents related to Tinubu and past investigations. Afolabi noted that while the U.S. government has released thousands of pages, some portions remain redacted to protect law enforcement methods and sources.

He emphasized that challenging the redactions is a legal right and not an attempt to conceal information. Afolabi questioned why Tinubu would not have been arrested if there were sufficient evidence against him, citing examples of other individuals prosecuted for drug-related offenses.
