Efforts to Unite Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi for 2027

Salihu Lukman, the former vice-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in North-West Nigeria, revealed that initiatives are in progress to unite key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The goal is to establish a broad opposition coalition capable of presenting a unified candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the APC.

In an interview with Arise News, Lukman emphasized that the selection of a presidential candidate should emerge from a collaborative process rather than being imposed. He stated that opposition leaders must decide whether they aim to merely contest the election or genuinely seek to win and form the next government.

Lukman noted that achieving victory requires setting aside individual ambitions and forming a cohesive political arrangement. He expressed the need for a credible alternative for Nigerians in the upcoming election, despite resistance from both Atiku and Obi's camps regarding a single candidacy.
