Wike Signs Julius Berger Deal for Abuja City Gate Restoration

On Thursday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, signed an agreement with Julius Berger to maintain the Abuja City Gate. This initiative, highlighted during the inauguration of a landmark by President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, aims to preserve and beautify the monument, which symbolizes Nigeria's unity as the capital of the nation.

The City Gate has suffered from years of neglect, a situation that was brought to attention by the First Lady, prompting the Federal Capital Territory Administration to prioritize its restoration. Richard Dauda, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, described the City Gate as a recognized landmark that has welcomed dignitaries since its construction in 1991.

The landmark is set to undergo a remodel, with the contract awarded in November 2025, to restore it to a standard befitting Nigeria's rapidly developing capital city.
