FG Accused of Withholding Osun LGA Funds Amid Politics

The Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is accused of playing politics with the lives of Osun State residents by withholding local government area (LGA) funds amounting to N150 billion, which affects four million people. This action is reminiscent of a similar situation in 2004 when the federal government under President Olusegun Obasanjo withheld funds from Lagos State until 2007.

The Supreme Court had previously ruled that the federal government has no right to withhold LGA funds, asserting that these funds do not belong to the federal government but are co-owned by the states. The current governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, faces challenges as the federal government deploys police to suppress opposition and maintain control over local government offices.

This political maneuvering is seen as an attempt to undermine Adeleke's administration, especially with upcoming elections in August.
