Woman dies in solo crash at Mongoro as LASTMA renews safety warnings

Over the weekend, a fatal collision occurred in Mongoro along the Ile-Zik corridor in Lagos when a woman's Toyota Sienna (registration: LND 162 HB) departed the roadway and struck a structure beside it. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority acknowledged the accident and initiated preliminary investigations into what transpired. LASTMA determined that the motorist had relinquished control of her Sienna, which then swerved off the carriageway before striking a building.

The woman perished immediately at the scene. The exact reason for losing control remains under investigation, though early indications point toward excessive speed as a possible element.

Personnel from LASTMA conducting routine patrols in the vicinity acted swiftly upon arriving at the site, securing it and regulating vehicular traffic. Their rapid action successfully averted further collisions and reduced traffic disruption on this heavily trafficked route.

Coordination with security forces ensured efficient removal of the vehicle. In response to this tragedy, LASTMA's General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki and other officials urged all motorists to practice greater vigilance and keep their vehicles in proper mechanical condition.

The authority emphasized that reckless speeding constitutes a critical danger in many fatal crashes throughout Lagos. The victim's identity and other personal information were withheld from public disclosure at the time of the announcement.
