Women Affairs and NIMC Collaborate on Digital Identity

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced a partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) during a courtesy visit from NIMC's Director-General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, in Abuja. This collaboration aims to deepen financial inclusion, strengthen social protection, and enhance service delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted that improved identity management would benefit women entrepreneurs by securing digital transactions. She noted that the Nigeria for Women Scale-Up Programme has reached nearly 1.2 million women, with a target of five million beneficiaries, potentially expanding to 25 million with additional World Bank financing.

The Minister emphasized the necessity of requiring beneficiaries to obtain National Identification Numbers to enhance access to economic opportunities. Coker-Odusote explained that the partnership would foster collaboration in Nigeria's digital identity ecosystem, aiming to accelerate legal identity coverage and improve access to government services, in line with the newly enacted NIMC Act 2026.
