Yobe State Launches Health Insurance for Retired Workers

The Yobe State Government has approved a health insurance program for retired civil servants, as disclosed by Dr. Babagana Tijjani, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA).

This decision, announced in Damaturu, follows a proposal submitted by the agency to extend health insurance coverage to retired civil servants as part of the state government's broader social protection and healthcare reform agenda. Dr.

Tijjani described the initiative as a people-centered intervention designed to improve the quality of life for retirees by guaranteeing affordable access to quality healthcare services. The approval is seen as a major breakthrough in healthcare financing within the state.

The YSCHMA will begin preparations for the implementation of the program, ensuring a transparent enrollment process in collaboration with pension unions and relevant government agencies. Accredited healthcare providers will be engaged to ensure seamless access to healthcare services for eligible retirees, reinforcing the state government's commitment to improving the living standards of vulnerable groups.
