Yobe Journalists Fund Hospital Bills for 40 Patients

Journalists in Yobe State, under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), have paid the hospital bills for 40 indigent patients at Damaturu Specialist Hospital. This outreach, part of the Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists' community development initiative, seeks to ease the financial burden on patients facing soaring medical costs.

Nabilu Balarab, the chairman of the Chapel, emphasized the dual role of journalists in holding the government accountable and positively impacting the lives of the downtrodden. Dr.

Muhammad Aji, the medical director of the hospital, acknowledged the gesture as a crucial moral booster for patients, particularly those grappling with severe cases like malaria that require critical care. The initiative aims to provide ongoing support on a quarterly basis, encouraging other bodies to follow suit in assisting vulnerable populations during challenging economic times in the state.
