YOREC Warns Against Electricity Infrastructure Vandalism

The Yobe State Rural Electrification Commission (YOREC) has issued a warning against the vandalism of electricity infrastructure following the arrest of a suspected vandal linked to a blackout that affected Tarmuwa, Bursari, Yunusari, and Geidam local government areas. The incident occurred on Friday evening along the Damaturu–Babbangida 33KV line, disrupting social and economic activities in the affected communities.

Engr. Umara Mustapha Goniri, the Executive Chairman of YOREC, disclosed that the suspect confessed during interrogation about an alleged ring leader residing in Damaturu, who has been orchestrating these criminal activities. Goniri condemned the vandalism as a serious threat to community development and wellbeing, urging those involved to cease their actions.

He called for public vigilance and cooperation with security agencies to protect electricity infrastructure, emphasizing that vandalism deprives communities of electricity and negatively impacts businesses and livelihoods.
