Emir of Zazzau Advocates for Electronic Voting in Nigeria

On Thursday, during the launch of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission's (KADSIECOM) five-year strategic plan for 2026-2030 in Kaduna, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamal, advocated for the implementation of electronic voting in Nigeria. He argued that transitioning from manual voting to electronic voting machines would enhance the transparency, credibility, and efficiency of the electoral process.

Bamal referenced his previous experience with KADSIECOM and studies conducted during visits to China, Brazil, and the United States, where he observed the effectiveness of electronic voting systems. He noted that the use of electronic voting machines in Kaduna had previously allowed for the rapid collation of results within hours and could help prevent vote manipulation.

Bamal urged KADSIECOM to invest significantly in this technology. Hajara Moham, the chairman of KADSIECOM, outlined the commission's new strategic plan aimed at improving performance and addressing key issues affecting electoral management, including voter apathy and legal reforms.
