Borno State to Host North-East Tax Ombud Headquarters

The Federal Government has designated Borno State as the North-East Zonal Headquarters of the Office of the Tax Ombud to improve taxpayer support and dispute-resolution services. This announcement was made during a courtesy visit by Dr. John Nwabueze, the Tax Ombud/Chief Executive, to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, in Maiduguri.

Dr. Nwabueze stated that the new headquarters would enhance taxpayer services and improve the tax-to-GDP ratio in the region. He emphasized the importance of fair treatment for taxpayers and the need for effective dispute resolution mechanisms.

In response, Governor Zulum committed to providing the necessary political support and pledged an office building and facilities for the headquarters. He also formed a committee to engage with the Tax Ombud and identify immediate needs for the office's operations.

Additionally, Zulum instructed the Director-General of the Borno State Geographic Information Service to secure land for a permanent headquarters.
