Borno Governor Zulum Distributes 23,700 Gas Cylinders

On Thursday, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum announced the distribution of 23,700 clean cook gas cylinders at no charge to school teachers and environmental vanguards across the state's 27 local government areas. This initiative aims to curb deforestation and promote environmental sustainability.

Beneficiaries will receive refill vouchers to recharge the gas cylinders, with the first phase involving the distribution of 5,000 cook gas cylinders and clean cook stoves in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local Government Area. Zulum emphasized that this program is part of a larger effort to reduce dependence on firewood, improve public health, and protect the state's forests.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the 2026 National Tree Planting Campaign and is crucial for restoring ecosystems affected by conflict. The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for their commitment to environmental sustainability and acknowledged the support from the Federal Ministry of Environment.
