14-Year-Old Drowns Retrieving Shoes in Abuja Canal

A 14-year-old boy, whose identity remains undisclosed, drowned while attempting to retrieve his shoes from a canal located behind Millennium Park in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. The incident occurred on Saturday during rainfall, as confirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in a statement on Sunday.

Following the drowning, the boy's body was recovered and rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. CSP Iniedu stated that the police received a report regarding the incident and that the father of the deceased declined an autopsy, requesting the release of the body for burial, which was granted.

An investigation into the incident has commenced by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abuja. Additionally, a separate drowning incident involving an 18-year-old boy, Abdullahi Aminu, was reported in Kano State, but this is unrelated to the primary story.
