Nigeria Shines at 17th Africa Aquatics Championships

At the 17th Africa Aquatics Championships held in Oran, Algeria, from May 5 to 10, 2026, Team Nigeria concluded the event with a total of three bronze medals. The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Director General Bukola Olopade, commended the athletes and coaches for their remarkable performances, which showcased Nigeria's rapid growth in aquatic sports.

Notable achievements included swimmer Kate Brown, who earned two bronze medals in the women's 100m and 200m butterfly events, posting times of 1:05.73 and 2:29.01, respectively. Additionally, Collin Ebinga represented the senior men's team, finishing 5th in the highly competitive 100m butterfly final with a time of 54.92 seconds.

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation received recognition as the fastest developing federation in Africa, reflecting the country's commitment to athlete development and international competition. The NSC expressed its dedication to supporting the federation and fostering grassroots growth in aquatic sports.
