EuroMatch NPFL Season Launches with Shooting Stars vs Inter Lagos

The 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season officially began on August 28, with Shooting Stars hosting newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. The match kicked off at 4pm, marking a new era for the league under a $7.5 million naming-rights agreement with EuroMatch, which has raised the champions’ prize money from ₦200 million to a record ₦1 billion.

Shooting Stars, now under the guidance of new technical adviser Salisu Yusuf after the departure of Nurudeen Aweroro, who led the team to a third-place finish last season, aims for a better start this year. The club has seen significant player changes, including the departure of Ismail Ayodele, Tijani Kabiru, and Ayobami Junior, while strengthening their squad with new signings.

Inter Lagos, beginning their first top-flight season, hopes to build on their pre-season performance against Shooting Stars. Matchday One will continue on August 30 with nine fixtures scheduled.
