APC Factions Oppose Wike's Coalition Ahead of 2027 Election

Major factions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are expressing strong opposition to the National Rainbow Coalition led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who remains a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). These factions warn that the coalition could cost President Bola Tinubu critical votes in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

Wike insists the coalition aims solely to secure Tinubu's re-election. However, senior APC figures argue that fielding candidates under different party banners on the same election day could confuse voters, especially in rural areas.

This concern echoes the 2023 elections, where voters supported Tinubu but elected PDP candidates for state seats. Wike has appointed Ogundu Kingsley Chinda as the coalition's consensus governorship candidate under the APC platform, despite his PDP affiliation.

Critics within the coalition argue against this choice, citing regional representation issues. Additionally, notable political figures like Bukola Saraki and Isa Pantami have aligned with Wike, further complicating the APC's internal dynamics.
