INEC Launches Six-Zone Tour for 2027 Elections Readiness

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced a six-zone nationwide tour on September 7, 2026, to evaluate its operational preparedness for the 2027 General Elections. The South-West Zonal Interactive Meeting took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, led by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN.

This initiative marks a departure from previous practices, focusing on direct engagement with Electoral Officers and administrative staff critical for election conduct. The tour will encompass all six geo-political zones ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on January 16, 2027, and the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.

Prof. Amupitan highlighted challenges such as voter apathy and misinformation, emphasizing the need for professionalism among staff. He reported that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) recorded 10,772,421 new registrants, with the National Register of Voters nearing 100 million.

The Commission is also refining its Result Management Systems and finalizing a new welfare package for its staff.
