Ex-LG Chairman Urges Merit for Ebonyi 2027 Elections

Timothi Odah Mondai, the former chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, has written an open letter to Ebonyi State Governor Rt. Hon.

Franci Ogbonna Nwifuru, urging him to adopt a merit-based approach in shaping political outcomes for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Odah emphasized the need for careful evaluation of aspirants, particularly for the Ebonyi-Ohaukwu Federal Constituency seat, and advocated for empowering grassroots candidates with verified records.

He cautioned against promoting candidates without proven capabilities to deliver, highlighting the fragile peace in Effium. Odah warned that allowing individuals allegedly linked to past communal unrest to contest electoral positions could undermine ongoing reconciliation efforts and reignite tensions in troubled communities.

He insisted that individuals indicted by the state's peace committee regarding the Effium crisis should not be given political platforms, as this could pose risks to the stability of the region.
