Sowore Promises to Abolish First Lady Role if Elected

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has pledged to eliminate the Office of the First Lady if he becomes president in 2027. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowore stated that the Nigerian Constitution does not recognize the position of First Lady.

He emphasized that his election would not alter his marriage, but his wife would not assume an official role associated with the presidency. Sowore argued that maintaining a position for the president's wife is an inappropriate use of public funds for a role not sanctioned by the Constitution.

He affirmed that while women's voices would be integral to his administration, the First Lady's role would not exist during his presidency, as he believes it contradicts constitutional provisions and diverts resources that should be allocated to national development.
