Sowore Rejects First Lady Office in 2027 Presidential Bid

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 election, stated that his administration would not maintain the Office of the First Lady if he becomes president of Nigeria. During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Sowore emphasized that the position is not provided for in the Nigerian Constitution.

He clarified that while his marriage would remain intact, he would not create an official role for his wife. Sowore asserted that his administration would strictly adhere to constitutional guidelines and criticized the office as unconstitutional and wasteful of resources.

He argued that previous First Ladies had not significantly advanced women's positions in Nigeria. Sowore concluded that the absence of the Office of the First Lady would be a deliberate policy of his administration, stating, "there won’t be an office of First Lady under the Shogunate presidency.".
