Kyari Alleges NDLEA Complicity in Drug Trafficking

Abba Kyari, alongside several officers from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), including ACP Sundai Ubua and ASP Bawa Jame, is involved in a legal case concerning drug-related offenses. Kyari has tendered a video alleging that operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) aided traffickers.

The case stems from the 2022 arrest of Chibunna Patrick Umeib and Emeka Alphonsu Ezenwann, who were convicted and sentenced for cocaine trafficking. Evidence presented by the defense counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, included testimony from a convict who claimed that NDLEA officials were aware of the cocaine being carried and did not conduct thorough searches.

The incident occurred at Enugu Airport, where 21.55 kg of cocaine was seized. The case has been adjourned to May 20-21, 2023, following the recent discharge and acquittal of Kyari and two of his brothers in a separate case involving false asset declaration.
