NDLEA Confirms Ongoing Drug Case Against Abba Kyari

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reaffirmed that its substantive drug trafficking case against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari remains active, despite a recent court ruling by Justice James Omotosho that discharged Kyari from 23 counts of money laundering and non-declaration of assets. NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, clarified that the ruling pertains to a different case and does not affect the ongoing drug prosecution.

The substantive drug case is scheduled to continue before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 16, 2026. The NDLEA is currently reviewing the judgment and will determine its next legal steps, including whether to appeal.

Babafemi emphasized the complexity of the legal battles facing the suspended senior police officer, asserting the agency's commitment to pursuing the substantive drug allegations until a conclusion is reached in court.
