Court Acquits Abba Kyari of Asset Non-Declaration Charges

On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja discharged and acquitted Abba Kyari, a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, of 23 counts of asset non-declaration filed against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment, stating that the NDLEA failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegations against Kyari.

The court also addressed accusations against Kyari's brothers, who were alleged to have sworn false affidavits to conceal the origins of certain properties. Justice Omotosho noted that the prosecution did not present credible documents linking Kyari to the properties in question, including land in Fountain Estate, Kasana, and another property located on Linda Choko Road in Asokoro, Maiduguri, Borno State.

The judge emphasized that Kyari's explanation regarding the Maiduguri property, which he claimed belonged to his late father and was inherited by his siblings, was not disproven by the prosecution. Consequently, the court discharged and acquitted Kyari of all charges.
