Aregbesola Critiques INEC's Role in ADC Convention

Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State, expressed strong criticism of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) convention held in Abuja. He accused INEC of dereliction of duty following its decision on April 1 to withdraw recognition from a faction within the party amid ongoing leadership crises.

Aregbesola argued that INEC's actions were unjustified, as the commission maintained that it would not engage with the faction due to a court appeal judgment from March 12 that directed the party to maintain the status quo pending a determination of the suit in the Federal High Court. He emphasized that the ADC had fulfilled all legal requirements ahead of the convention and accused INEC of acting in a manner suggesting bias against the party.

Aregbesola also highlighted that the ADC had formally communicated its plans to INEC, which acknowledged receipt of the correspondence. He reaffirmed the legitimacy of the ADC as a registered political party across the country.
