ADC Demands Independent Probe into Physiotherapist's Death

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded an independent investigation into the death of physiotherapist Mari Habila, who was found dead at the residence of Ebonyi State Minister of Works, David Umahi. In a statement issued on Wednesday by ADC's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party emphasized the need for transparency and accountability regarding Habila's death, which occurred under unclear circumstances.

The ADC questioned why the investigation into her death was being conducted at Umahi's residence and called for the minister to temporarily step aside during the inquiry. They insisted that the investigation should be free from executive influence and include a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, with findings made public.

The ADC also expressed condolences to Habila's family and warned that failure to ensure accountability could undermine public confidence in senior government officials. The Ebonyi State Police Command has transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
