Adeleke Campaign Accuses Osun Police of Plot to Arrest 46 Members

Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election council claims police have targeted supporters for arrest ahead of the August 15 election. Police deny the allegations.
The Imole Campaign Council, overseeing Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election efforts in Osun State, claimed Sunday that authorities have developed a roster of 46 people slated for detention prior to the August 15 governorship election. The roster includes Ademola Adeyemo, who serves as the state's Commissioner for Energy, campaign representatives stated.
Kolapo Alimi, serving as Deputy Director-General of the campaign organization, presented this accusation to media personnel in Osogbo. According to Alimi, the majority of these 46 individuals come from Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area's principal settlement.
Alimi described such detentions as designed to undermine campaign operations, discourage voter participation, and foster an environment of fear. He contended the scheme entails moving prisoners to Abuja on baseless charges.
The Osun State Police Command refuted these assertions, stating that its priority is preserving community safety and fulfilling constitutional obligations. Without addressing particular accusations directly, police leadership stressed their dedication to remaining neutral throughout the electoral cycle.
The council additionally made an urgent request to Inspector-General Tunji Disu, urging that security forces uphold impartial conduct and safeguard citizen protections irrespective of partisan affiliations. This call reflects escalating friction between opposition political movements and law enforcement bodies ahead of Nigeria's state-level elections.
