NAFDAC Discovers Illegal Herbal Product Factory in Lagos

On October 22, during an inspection in Agege, Lagos, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility. The Deputy Director of the Pharmaceutical Division, Pharmacist Edith Joseph, revealed that the facility was producing unregistered herbal products, including Aishetu Adams Bitters, under unhygienic conditions.
The agency received intelligence on October 16 regarding the production of these products, which displayed a fake NAFDAC registration number belonging to a registered cough syrup. Joseph noted that the facility was concealed within a residential building and lacked proper hygiene standards.
NAFDAC evacuated the products and sealed the facility, arresting the manager, Abulaziz Sayidu, for interrogation, while the alleged owner, Ashietu Adams, absconded. The agency aims to safeguard public health by curbing the circulation of counterfeit products in the Nigerian market.
