Nigerian Airports to Go Cashless by 2026 - FAAN Unveils Comprehensive Payment Solution

Nigerian airports are set to become cashless by 2026, with a pilot phase starting in Lagos and Abuja. The system, unveiled at a press conference at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) on Monday, offers a comprehensive cashless contactless payment solution.

This initiative aims to eradicate physical cash payments at various airport touchpoints, including access gates, car parks, and VIP lounges. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) projects a 75% increase in revenue with the deployment of this system.

The pilot phase will begin with a 50% implementation, gradually rising to 75% across the country. Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, highlighted the goal of tripling revenue within the first year of full implementation.
