Akpabio Urges Security Forces to Rescue Kidnapped Nigerians

Senate President Godswill Akpabio called on security agencies to enhance their efforts in rescuing Nigerians held captive by armed groups and to protect vulnerable communities. This statement was made during a plenary session amid reports of renewed abductions in Niger and Zamfara states, where more than 80 individuals, primarily women, were kidnapped in separate incidents.

Specifically, 47 farmers were abducted in Rimi community, Mariga Local Government Area, while harvesting groundnuts. Akpabio emphasized that as long as any Nigerian remains in captivity, the nation cannot consider itself free.

He stated that the Senate would utilize legislation, appropriation, and oversight to explore additional measures to address insecurity. Furthermore, he expressed concern over the impact of flooding on communities and food security, urging for better preparedness and timely intervention.

Akpabio also acknowledged the economic pressures facing Nigerians, particularly regarding the cost of living and employment challenges.
