Akwa Ibom Sports Commissioner Endorses Choir Competition

On July 22, 2026, Elder Paul Bassey, the Commissioner for Sports in Akwa Ibom, endorsed the Arise Peace Choir Competition during a visit from the competition's Planning Committee. This initiative, organized by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Creative Talent Development, aims to promote the state's peaceful environment as the General Elections approach.

The competition, themed “Peace be Still,” is set to officially commence on August 16, 2026, and will feature choirs from each Local Government Area, with prizes of 5 million Naira for the first position and 3 million and 2 million Naira for the runners-up. Bassey praised the initiative for amplifying the state's peaceful image and called on citizens to support government efforts positively.
