Akwa Ibom Sports Commissioner Endorses Choir Competition

On July 22, 2026, Elder Paul Bassey, the Commissioner for Sports in Akwa Ibom, endorsed the Arise Peace Choir Competition during a visit from the Planning Committee. The competition, organized by the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Creative Talent Development, aims to promote the state's peaceful image as the General Elections approach.

The theme of the campaign is “Peace be Still,” and it is in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters. The official commencement of the competition is set for August 16, 2026, with participation expected from choirs across all Local Government Areas in the state.

Prizes for the competition include 5 million Naira for the first position and 3 million and 2 million Naira for the runners-up. Bassey emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives that amplify the state's peaceful reputation and called on citizens to engage positively with the government.
