EFCC Extradites Two Nigerians to US for Sextortion

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has facilitated the extradition of two Nigerians, Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle, to the United States to face prosecution for alleged sexual extortion of two teenage boys, which resulted in their deaths. The EFCC stated that both individuals were identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in separate investigations involving sextortion schemes targeting male minors aged 13 to 17.

The schemes reportedly involved the use of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) to extort victims for money. In one case, a 13-year-old victim was threatened with the dissemination of nude photographs, leading to suicidal intentions.

The FBI requested the EFCC's assistance in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators. Adekunle was arrested, and extradition proceedings for Olawale were initiated at the Federal High Court, Lagos, under Suit No.

FHC/L/CS/353/2024. Although the initial application was refused on June 10, 2024, it was appealed, and on July 7, 2026, the Court of Appeal set aside the judgment.
