Woman Sells Newborn for N2.5m in Anambra Child Trafficking

In Anambra, a case of child trafficking has emerged involving Precious Uchenna, a self-acclaimed woman of God, who allegedly sold a newborn for N2.5 million. The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Chinyere Onyekesi, disclosed that Uchenna had initially provided accommodation for the young mother after her family rejected her.

Instead of reporting the situation to authorities, Uchenna facilitated the transfer of the infant to her sister, bypassing the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Force. Onyekesi condemned the incident, asserting that no parental consent or informal agreement could legitimize the sale of a child outside legal provisions.

In a video clip, Uchenna confirmed sending the mother N300,000 from the sale proceeds but did not explain why she withheld the remaining amount. Onyekesi informed both Uchenna and the buyer that they would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
