APC Leaders Allegedly Sought Tinubu's US Records Before Election

Retired Nigerian Army Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi alleged that two influential members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) opposed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's presidential ambition attempted to obtain confidential information about him from US government agencies prior to the 2023 election. Ali-Keffi, who served as the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, stated he learned of this alleged attempt from Modibbo Hamman-Tukur, the then Director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

He did not disclose the identities of the two APC figures or provide evidence for his claims. Ali-Keffi recounted that these individuals allegedly gained unauthorized access to the NFIU director's office and contacted US agencies regarding Tinubu's records related to terrorism financing.

He claimed that Hamman-Tukur, feeling uneasy about the situation, visited Ali-Keffi's office at around 2 am, causing the individuals involved to flee. Ali-Keffi also mentioned that a response was received from the US, but he was unaware of its contents.

He noted that some NFIU personnel connected to the incident were dismissed, and litigation followed.
